AWOS II Weather Station Installation
The Charlie Leake Airfield in McBride British Columbia is the proud new owner of an AWOS II weather station.
This was a difficult and longer than normal installation as McBride had to do some work to provide the appropriate location for the weather system.
The other challenge with this installation was the communications because the airport did not have a secure location for the equipment, so communication had to be done from their operations center in the town of McBride.
To further complicate the installation, 30cm of snow decided to land the day before the install was to begin, travel to McBride was difficult because of weather and also because of Covid restrictions and protocols.
The system is a part of the airport development plan, growing the airport to include MediVac capabilities. The Village has been working on the development plan and believes that any improvements made to McBride’s Charlie Leake Airfield can only be viewed as a positive benefit for the Village and surrounding area.
In the end, the customer is happy with their new AWOS II and already are discussing upgrading to an AWOS III which would include the addition of a ceilometer to their system.
